Stephen Palumbi in conversation with Angie Coiro
Sunday, May 18, 2014, 2:00 p.m.
Steve Palumbi teamed up with his son and writer Anthony Palumbi to introduce readers to "The Extreme Life of the Sea."
The Extreme Life of the Sea reveals the startling ways the ocean has influenced human innovation and technology -- humpback-whale fins inspire fan blade shapes, ice fish lend their anti-freeze-like proteins to the ice cream industry, and the cone snail's toxins create pain killers more potent than morphine.
Professor Palumbi has published on the genetics and evolution of sea urchins, whales, cone snails, corals, sharks, and spiders.
